The M¨¦tis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is proud to announce that effective June 5, 2017, long-time MNO Director of Intergovernmental Relations Joanne Meyer will become the new MNO Chief Operating Officer (COO).? The Chief Operating Officer reports directly to the MNO President and is responsible for managing and directing the MNO¡¯s overall daily operations in line with the MNO Statement of Prime Purpose. The position of COO will work in collaboration with the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) to continue to move the MNO forward.

Joanne?has extensive federal and provincial public service experience at the field, regional and national levels. She is?well-respected both within and outside of the MNO having served as the MNO Director of Intergovernmental Relations since 2008, which was also when she started with the MNO.?She is highly regarded and well-known for her outstanding work ethic and endless dedication to the MNO. During her time at the MNO, Joanne worked closely with the Provisional Council of the M¨¦tis Nation of Ontario (PCMNO) in order to advance the rights, interests and aspirations of M¨¦tis families and communities throughout Ontario. She developed close relationships with MNO chartered community councils and worked to establish strong, positive agreements between communities with proponents and governments that contributed to a much stronger MNO. Joanne¡¯s work led to large numbers of contributions agreements that brought millions of dollars to the MNO and its communities that have been used to advance the M¨¦tis rights agenda, improve services to?M¨¦tis people?and strengthen Ontario M¨¦tis communities.

Prior to joining the MNO, Joanne was the?Senior Policy Advisor, Ipperwash Response Team for the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs. She has also previously served as the Policy and Research Team Lead for the Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Strategy, Executive Assistant to the Secretary of State for Western Economic Diversification and Indian Affairs and Northern Development, Special Assistant to the Minister of Heath Canada as well as a holding a variety of other senior positions with the Government of Canada.

Joanne was born and raised in?Regina, Saskatchewan and is the proud mother of two?adult children who live in Saskatchewan and California.
