Living at Le Villageois, a retirement community in Penetanguishene, Senator Porter-Brunelle watched as the Canadian flag, the Franco-Ontarian flag and the M¨¦tis flag were raised together.
¡°I was so very proud to speak on behalf of the M¨¦tis and also share that our flag was the oldest (of the three flags),¡± she shared in an e-mail.
According to Senator Porter-Brunelle, a high portion of Villageois residents are M¨¦tis, and a M¨¦tis flag hung in the foyer of the residence as an expression of their pride.
The event commemorated Canada Day but it was the first time the M¨¦tis flag was raised in the community. It now flies there daily.
The local parish priest gave a benediction for the Canada celebrations, witnessed by the residents and MNO citizens attending the event, followed by a luncheon in the main hall.See ALL news articles
