In celebration of National Aboriginal Day, Hydro One recognized 10 outstanding students selected for the Leonard S. (Tony) Mandamin Scholarship. The scholarship, named in recognition of the Honourable Justice Leonard S. (Tony) Mandamin, is granted annually to First Nations, M¨¦tis and Inuit post-secondary students.
Among the list of winners were M¨¦tis Nation of Ontario (MNO) citizen Joshua Van Damme and Dalton Mathias and Brandon Casquenette, who both self-identify as M¨¦tis. Dalton is also the son of Hank and Loma Rowlinson; Hank is the MNO Manager of Community Relations and Loma is the MNO Provincial Aboriginal Responsible Gambling Coordinator. Both Joshua and Brandon are studying Engineering¡ª Joshua is studying to be a Mechanical Engineer at Carleton University, while Brandon is studying Electrical Engineering Technology at Georgian College. Dalton is studying Line Crew Ground Support at Cambrian College.
"Our scholarship winners not only exceed in academic excellence but just as importantly, in their commitment to supporting their communities," said Lee Anne Cameron, Director, First Nations & M¨¦tis Relations, Hydro One. "The Leonard S. (Tony) Mandamin Scholarship is one of the ways Hydro One supports and encourages students to stay in school and explore opportunities within the electricity industry."
?Each year, up to 15 scholarships are available to students enrolled in electricity related programs. Scholarship recipients are granted a financial award in the amount of $5,000 and those eligible may have an opportunity to complete a paid developmental work term with Hydro One.
