MNO citizens attending the Community Information Session in
M¨¦tis Nation of Ontario (MNO) citizens attended scheduled half-day Community Information Sessions in Thunder Bay and Penetanguishene on February 6 and 7, 2016.
Representatives of the Provisional Council of the M¨¦tis Nation of Ontario (PCMNO) and senior MNO staff met with MNO citizens to provide important updates on a busy and productive year for the MNO at the local, regional and provincial levels.?Many topics were touched upon including: the new federal government's commitments to the M¨¦tis Nation, including implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission¡¯s Calls to Action, and the recently launched National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, as well as updates on M¨¦tis rights and legal issues. There were also presentations on MNO programs and services and a process for gathering further input on the development and delivery of services across the province. A significant portion of the sessions were dedicated to understanding the?MNO Secretariat Act, the ground-breaking legislation recognizing the?M¨¦tis Nation of Ontario's unique governance structures that was passed in December 2015.
The presenters responded to many good questions during the questions and answers period at each session and received constructive feedback on the information presented to the attendees.
