MNO representatives meeting with members of the Ontario College
of Teachers in TorontoOn January 11th and 12th the M¨¦tis Nation of Ontario (MNO) met with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) in Toronto. The OCT is in the process of creating some new Additional Qualification (AQ) courses that will become available in the fall of 2012.
This session was an opportunity for the MNO and the larger M¨¦tis community to provide input on the content and ¡°teachers¡¯ guidelines¡± for three of the proposed courses. Attending from the MNO Education and Training Branch were Jennifer St. Germain, Chris Paci, Chris McLeod, and Benny Michaud. Community Councils represented included the Niagara Region, Historic Sault Ste. Marie, Toronto and York, and Thunder Bay M¨¦tis Councils.
The courses being contemplated are titled, ¡°Teaching M¨¦tis Children¡±; ¡°Native Studies¡±; and, ¡°M¨¦tis Peoples: Understanding Traditional Teachings, Histories, Current Issues and Cultures¡±.
Senators Alis Kennedy and Roland St. Germain were there, as were youth representatives Janine Landry and Mitch Case.
Those in attendance have until March 15th to provide additional ideas related to the new courses.
